"How can I get a set of MAME roms?" you ask...

  
  Method #1: Send me funds:

The preferred method is to send me the funds to cover the cost of the raw materials and postage so that I can buy the blank discs, packaging materials and pay the postage to send you the discs.  

TO MY FRIENDS ABROAD: I am no longer accepting international requests on a regular basis. If you absolutely cannot find a burner closer to home you may contact me before requesting roms. (Do not use the cart buttons on this site!)
I will fulfill international requests on an exception basis, but there is a substantial international postage charge.

  Method #2: Send me your external, USB hard drive:

If you have an external, USB hard drive that you'd like to send me, I'll be happy to copy my current ROM set, along with all of the CHD files and "extras", onto it for you. (NOTE: The current set is roughly 165GB in size.) As the size of the MAME collection continues to grow, this seems to be an increasingly popular option for people looking to get a "complete set". If you don't already have an external USB hard drive but are considering purchasing one for this very purpose, you can have it shipped directly to me. I will then copy the MAME files to it and then forward it on to you.

In order for this to work, you will need to

  1. Send me an email and tell me what you want me to copy for you
     
  2. Send me a payment to cover the cost of your return postage, optional insurance, and whatever donation you may care to make for my time and consideration
    • You can send me a PayPal payment to "mameburner@monstarcade.com"
    • You can use the "donation" field on my MONSTARCADE shopping cart
    • You can mail me a check or money order (or even cash at your own risk)
    • As a rule of thumb, whatever it is gonna cost you to send your drive to me is probably the same amount it's gonna cost me to send it back to you. Please don't ask me to calculate the return postage for you; do your due dilligence and look it up online. I pretty much stick to USPS Priority Mail because it's cheap, easy, and they pick up the packages right from my front door step. If you prefer UPS, send me a prepaid return label and I can drop it off at the local UPS Store.
       
  3. Ensure that the drive you send me is:
    • Formatted with the NTFS file system if you want the large, 4+ GB CHD files (otherwise, FAT32 is also OK)
    • Large enough to hold all of the sets that you want me to copy for you. As I mentioned above, the current MAME set is roughly 165GB. For any other sets listed on my site that you might also want, you can use 4.5GB per DVD and 700MB per CD as approximations to figure out how big your drive needs to be. (For example, if you want the current MAME set and the 6-DVD N64 set, you need to make sure your hard drive has a capacity of at least 192GB. MAME = 165GB and N64 = (6 x 4.5GB) = 27GB.)

  Method #3: Send me your blank media:

If, for some reason, you INSIST on having a certain brand of disc used, I will oblige you. Send me an e-mail and let me know what you want, and I will tell you how many discs to send. The choice of manufacturer of the discs is yours and is generally not important, but remember that very cheap discs tend to fail easily and sometimes take forever to burn. 

I currently burn CD-Rs at up to 48x and they must be 700MB/80min. data discs. For DVD, I use DVD-R 4.7 GB media and can currently burn at speeds up to 4x. Sending spare discs ensures that you get everything you want, even if one or more discs fail. In the event that there is not enough available storage capacity to contain all of the files (occasionally, discs will contain under-runs), you will receive as much as I can fit onto the discs that you provided. Fair enough, right?

I will generally burn discs that you provide for FREE, providing that you also send me either return postage and a mailer or enough money for me to pay to send them back to you.
